Sharp Declares to Launch Only Android and/or Tapas Smartphones in China Beginning in 2011; 3D Smartphone Poised for Niche Market

Japanese Sharp announced on May 25 that the company plans to launch only Smartphones in China, beginning in 2011, the Sina Tech News reported on May 25. In the face of the stiff completion from Chinese mobile phone vendors such as Lenovo and Gionee, Sharp is projected to launch more Smartphones operating either based on Google Android OS, or based on Tapas OS, which runs on a mobile platform developed by Innovation Works based on Android OS. Aside from Sharp, Haier and Tianyu also have Tapas-powered mobile devices available in the marketplace.

 

In addition, Sharp stated that the company will also focus on the development of Android-power Smartphone with 3D capture capability, thereby allowing phone users to experience 3D effect without 3D glasses, according again to the Sina Tech News. Aside from Sharp, LG, Motorola, HTC and Samsung also have 3D Smartphones in order to diversify their product lines.
